Canadian Writers Abroad used to announce newsy items on its Facebook page, but now Meta has made that difficult…
Congratulations to Sarah Bernstein, last night’s winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize for her novel, Study for Obedience. (Alfred A Knopf/Penguin RandomHouse, 2023).
From Montreal, Bernstein lives in Scotland. She was unable to attend the Giller ceremony last night because she’d given birth ten days ago.
In 2023, Bernstein was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists, and her novel was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
Our UK reviewer is reviewing the book. (Granta Books, July 2023).

  • Excerpt of Study for Obedience on Giller site and prizewinner coverage.
  • CBC coverage of event and interview with Bernstein.
